‘A gift for melody, brave, poignant, entertaining, original ‘ Guardian ★★★★

Best known as one of the UK’s most respected songwriters, Charlie’s own music, however, reflects her roots-acoustic background and is best described as eclectic, contemporary folk. She enjoys a multi-faceted career that has included acting in film, TV & radio, writing for radio and composition for film & BBCTV and comedy improvisation.

Her songs have won two Ascap awards, an Ivor Novello nomination, both the Overall Grand and the Folk Prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards and Best Album Lyrics from the Indy Acoustic Project for her album Cheapskate Lullabyes.

She is one of a handful of UK writers to have success across many genres, defined by the range of artists to have covered her songs, including George Harrison, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Lisa Stansfield, Paul Carrack, Ricky Ross and Jimmy Nail for whom she co-wrote the UK No 1 Ain’t No Doubt.

Her song Strut reached No 4 for Sheena Easton in the US, while her own single Pilot of the Airwaves reached No 11.

She starred opposite Jonathan Pryce in the award-winning film ‘The Ploughman’s Lunch’, worked in theatre, fringe and West End, radio with Eric Idle and co-founded and performed at comedy-impro venue The Hurricane Club for seven years, working alongside many comedy icons including Bill Bailey, Harry Hill and Robin Williams.

Charlie released her 8th album, Milk Roulette in 2014 and is currently writing & recording her 9th, Dark Matter and touring across the UK, SInce 2011 she has also performed with over two dozen UK choirs, who have joined her onstage to provide backing vocals for special arrangements of her songs.

Keeping our promise to bring you great entertainment!
Hailed as one of the most exciting new singer-songwriters on the acoustic music scene, Matthew Shepherd is a 22 year-old singer-songwriter who has been delighting audiences in London, Essex and beyond with his collection of self penned songs.
His debut studio album ‘Top of the tree’ was released in June 2015 and only took a day for the album to break into the iTunes Top 100 Singer/Songwriter Album Chart. His songs cover the happiness and heartbreak of love, with his warm, intimate and delicate style.
July 2016 sees the release of the much-awaited Acoustic EP entitled ‘The Sea’.
With club and concert performances plus 2 European tours under his belt, Matthew is currently embarking on a UK Tour and I’m sure we will be hearing more from this stunning talent in the months and years to come.

We are delighted to be welcoming him to Epping Folk Club this Summer.
