About Emma;

Featured by Q Magazine and tipped by Glamour as 'One to Watch in 2016', Emma Ballantine is rapidly gaining recognition for powerful songwriting and a 'shapeshifting vocal gift' (Gigslutz). A finalist in the UK Unsigned Songwriter of the Year competition, her music has been played by BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing, and she has been described by Resonance FM as 'a unique voice among modern songwriters'. Emma has toured around the UK and Germany, playing at festivals including Glastonbury, Sidmouth Folk Week and Home Farm Festival. Originally from Salisbury and now based in London, she has played some of the capital's best known venues, such as The Bedford, Century Club and The Barfly. Emma's latest EP, Tourist, reached no. 15 in the iTunes Alternative chart, and she is currently working on a project called Somebody's Story, creating a new record based on songs sent to her by other people.

Steve Turner
Steve Turner is known as a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina song
accompaniments, stretching the boundaries of traditional forms, with one of the best voices in the business. He is a multi-instrumentalist, who also accompanies himself on the cittern, and also plays mandolin and banjo.

After a thirteen year break, building up an internationally known stringed instrument business, he made a welcome return to performing in folk clubs and festivals in 2005.

Steve’s 5th album, his first for 22 years "The Whirligig of Time" waslong listed for the BBC folk awards in 2008. His 6th album "Rim of the Wheel" was released in spring 2012 and received rave reviews – David Kidman in N.E. Folk Roundabout called it “sheer genius a sure contender for one of my folk albums of 2012” This was backed up by many festival bookings and re-plays on the radio on the Mike Harding Show Radio 2 and Late Junction Radio 3 and a full page article in F/Roots in July 2012.

Steve’s new 7th album “Spirit of the Game” was released in January 2016.
In the F/Roots August/September 2014 edition Nancy Kerr in her "Rocket Launcher" interview when asked "what was the best gig you ever saw?" answered "the best spot I've seen recently was Steve Turner - total intensive musical focus and a vast serious repertoire"
Supporting Emma and getting our show off to a traditional and authentic start is the superb and highly respected Steve Turner. Steve has been setting the highest folk music standards for years now and will give our evening an amazing contrast to the contemporary style of Emma Ballantine. Safe to say, you're going to love what he brings to Epping...
It's going to be another great night...
